Intoxicated motorist hits parked vehicle before driving off street

Streetsboro -- A motorist was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to control after police say he hit a parked vehicle and drove off William Henry Court after midnight.

According to the report, an officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near William Henry Court, which was found stuck in a grassy median next to the road with its left tie rod lying the street.

Police said it was determined during the investigation that the driver had first struck a parked vehicle in a driveway, causing an undisclosed amount of damage.

The driver showed signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test, according to the report. Police said he was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of .219 and was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to control.

The driver was taken to Portage County Jail and where he was later released.

Disorderly conduct

Feb. 14. Man charged with disorderly conduct: A man discovered lying in the middle of a road was charged with disorderly conduct.

Officers responded to a report that a man was lying in the middle of the Seymour Drive during the early evening.

According to the police report, the man, who showed signs of intoxication, could barely stand without help. According to the report, the man was charged with disorderly conduct and was released to a friend at the scene.

Intoxicated driving

Feb. 17. Motorist charged at drive-thru: An officer responded to the drive-thru lane of a Route 14 restaurant early in the morning where a man was reported to be unresponsive behind the wheel.

According to the report, the officer found the driver asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle, which was still in gear. Police said the fire department examined the driver and found he showed signs of intoxication, but was not injured.

The driver failed a field sobriety test at the scene and was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of .136, according to the report. Police said the driver was charged with driving while intoxicated and was later released at the police station to a family member.

Theft

Feb. 19. Items stolen from purse: A woman reported items from her purse were stolen Feb. 16 when she left it at a table at a Market Square Drive restaurant.

According to a police report, the woman realized her purse was missing when she returned to her table after leaving it briefly. She later found it lying in front of the door of an adjacent business. The woman told police the purse was missing a credit card, a debit card and her cell phone.

Feb. 17. Man refused beer sale, allegedly steals pack: An employee of a Route 303 business reported a man allegedly stole a 12-pack of beer, worth an undisclosed amount at around 2 a.m.

According to the report, the employee denied sale of the beer to the man because it was after 1 a.m. The employee told police the man left $20 on the counter and walked out with the beer.

Police said the employee has refused to accept the $20 for the sale. The incident is under investigation.

Other police news

Feb. 18. Fleeing juvenile charged : An officer reported observing two juveniles walking down Ellen Drive after midnight, which violated curfew.

According to the report, the officer confronted the juveniles who then tried to flee the scene. Police said the officer caught one of the juveniles, who showed signs of intoxication and was only 16.

The other juvenile was later identified, and both were charged with curfew violations and obstructing justice, according to the report. Police said the juvenile caught by the officer also was charged with prohibitions.
