One hospitalized in three-car accident

Streetsboro -- Officers responded to report of a three-vehicle accident around 9 p.m. Feb. 22 near the intersection of routes 14 and 43.

According to the police report, one driver was taken to Robinson Memorial Hospital for undisclosed injuries. Police said the driver allegedly responsible for the accident showed signs of intoxication, but refused to take any sobriety tests.

The driver was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to provide assured clear distance and was released to her fiancé at the police station.

Domestic violence

Feb. 25. Minor in altercation charged: A 17-year-old foster child was charged with three counts of domestic violence Feb. 25 after being accused of injuring three members of her foster family.

Officers responded to a home in the northwest quadrant of town for a report about a foster child fighting with her foster mother and two other foster children.

According to the police report, the fire department treated the mother who had a laceration on her nose that was bleeding. Police said that another foster child had marks that looked like he was choked and another had a bite mark on her wrist.

Police say the foster child admitted to police that she had caused the injuries. Police said the 17-year-old foster child did not show visible signs of any injuries and was charged with three counts of domestic violence.

She was taken to the Portage County Juvenile Detention Center.

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated

Feb. 27. Motorist driving in wrong lane: An officer witnessed a vehicle spin "out of control" on Route 43 and then drive nearly a mile north in a southbound lane after midnight, according to police reports.

According to the report, the driver was pulled over on Frost Road and showed signs of intoxication. Police said the driver failed a field sobriety test and was later found to have a blood-alcohol level .266.

The driver was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and was transported to the Portage County Justice Center.

Feb. 23. Suspicious person along train tracks: Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person along the train tracks near Route 303 who was placing items into a bucket.

According to the report, officers said the man was collecting scrap metal from along the tracks to sell. Police told him it's illegal to collect scrap metal along railroad tracks, since they are private property.

The man told police he would no longer collect the metal. No further police action was taken.
