Streetsboro -- A motorist pulled over March 30 for driving too slow on Interstate 480 was charged with providing false information and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, while a passenger faces charges for letting him get behind the wheel.
An officer saw a vehicle on Interstate 480 traveling at 35 mph on a 65 mph section of road during the early morning and pulled the vehicle over.
According to the report, the driver showed signs of intoxication and said he did not have his driver's license with him, which turned out to be expired. The driver gave the officer a false Social Security number and was driving with a person who had filed a protection order against him, according to the report.
Police said the driver failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a breath test at the police station. The driver was charged with providing false information, failure to reinstate his driver's license, violating a protection order, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to the report.
Police said the passenger was charged with wrongful entrustment for allowing the driver behind the wheel while impaired. The driver was taken to Portage County Jail and the passenger was released at the police station, according to the report.
Domestic violence
April 1. Mother charged with domestic violence: Officers responded to a domestic violence report in the late evening from a woman who said her sister was kicking her niece at their home in the northwest quadrant of the city.
According to the report, the sister met the officers at the front of the home and admitted to beating her daughter. The daughter was found lying on her bedroom floor complaining of leg and rib pain, though no bruising was apparent, according to police reports.
The daughter was taken to Robinson Memorial Hospital, while the mother was charged with domestic violence and taken to Portage County Jail. The daughter and her sister were later turned over to the custody of their aunt.
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated
April 4. Man charged with operating vehicle while intoxicated; passenger charged with suspected drug possession: An officer saw a vehicle on Route 303 commit marked lane violations during the evening.
According to the report, the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, but it continued driving down Route 303 and another police cruiser had to stop the vehicle at the Infirmary Road intersection. Police said the driver and a passenger under 21 years old showed signs of intoxication The passenger was in possession of suspected drugs.
The driver was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to comply, marked lane violations, and resisting arrest; the passenger was charged with prohibitions and possession of suspected drugs, according to the report.
Police said were taken to Portage County Jail and later released.
Trespassing
April 2. Juvenile charged with voyeurism: A Pike Parkway resident reported catching a 16-year-old male looking into a bedroom during the evening.
According to the report, the resident saw the juvenile looking into the bedroom and was able to detain him. Police said the juvenile was charged with trespassing and voyeurism and was released to his father at the police station.
Other police news
March 30. Laptop found on vending machine: A guest at a Route 14 hotel reported his laptop computer was missing from his room early in the morning.
According to the report, the guest had left his room and thought he had locked the door, but when he returned the computer, worth an undisclosed amount, was missing.
A few hours later, a hotel employee told police the computer had been found on top of a vending machine inside the hotel. It was returned to the guest.
Police said there are no suspects at this time. The incident is under further investigation.
April 3. Woman charged with failure of physical control: A Route 14 business reported in the morning that a woman in the parking lot, who was seen drinking a bottle of wine, had fallen out of her vehicle, urinated on herself, and then re-entered the vehicle.
According to the report, officers found the woman in the driver's seat with the vehicle running, showing signs of intoxication. Police said the woman failed a field sobriety test and was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of .163. The woman was charged with failure of physical control and was released to a limo service at the police station, according to the report.
