Baseball team outslugs Ravenna in Kent

The Streetsboro baseball team finished 1-1 at the David Starkey Memorial Tournament April 19.

The Rockets (4-5) won an 11-8 decision against Ravenna at Kent State University's Schoonover Stadium.

Streetsboro took a 5-0 lead with three runs in the first inning and two in the second, but Ravenna stormed back with six runs in the fourth.

The Rockets, however, regained the lead (7-6) with two runs in the fourth. Ravenna tied it at 7-7 in the fifth, but Streetsboro took the lead (9-7) for good with two runs in the fifth.

The Rockets added two more in the sixth after Ravenna (5-4) touched the plate in the top of the inning.

Each team finished with 10 hits. Streetsboro had two errors and Ravenna had three miscues.

Matt Senters, who started, got the win on the mound. Jacob Bennett had two doubles and Anthony Edwards had two hits, including a double for Streetsboro.

Ryan Stainbrook also had two singles for the Rockets.

Visiting Streetsboro lost a 12-1 decision to Kent Roosevelt April 19.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. The Rockets took a 1-0 lead in the third, but Kent scored 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Kent (10-0) had 11 hits and no errors and Streetsboro had two hits and two errors. Dan Kopcak took the loss on the mound.

The host Rockets completed a sweep against Portage Trail Conference County Division rival East Canton with an 8-7 win April 15.

Streetsboro scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh after East Canton tied the game with four runs. The Rockets, who improved to 2-2 in the County Division, had an 8-2 lead at one point.

Kevin Miller got the win on the mound and also had two singles. Nick Balint led Streetsboro's offense with three hits, including a double.

The Rockets posted a 6-2 win over East Canton April 14 on the road. Streetsboro took control with four runs in the first. Miller got the win on the mound.

Hudson Open

scheduled in Kent

The Hudson Open is scheduled to take place June 20 at Oak Knolls Golf Club in Kent. The shotgun start is set for 8:30 a.m. It is a four-person scramble that includes 18 holes with a cart.

The event includes snacks, luncheon and a golfer's gift. Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin, longest putt (men and women), longest drive (men and women) and men, women and mixed group winners.
