You better respond to that letter Streetsboro

April 25, 2008

This is to all the good citizens of Streetsboro
Recently we all received a letter in the mail that many including myself thought was a no respond letter.
This is from Direct Energy aggregation and if you don't respond to it by phone or by letter you will be enrolled in a program sponsored by the city to take over the handling and billing of your gas bill.
I do not mean you will be billed by the city but your gas bill rates will be controlled by the city.
I personally had a chance to speak with a rep from Direct energy and asked him why the city is doing this.
His answer to me was to get votes.
I do not believe this and neither should you.
I have opted out of this program thanks to a neighbor of mine informing me.
Now i am urging you all to do the same.
In the first place if a letter is sent to you requesting you to join a different entity for your gas you should have to fill that letter out and sign that you want it.
Unfortunately our public officials ( when i called the city operator i was directed to the mayors office)have seen fit to send a letter to all of us that states if you dont respond you WILL BE ENROLLED in this program.
I can not help but see something illegal in this.
In other words he can send you a letter and say if you don't respond to this letter he will take $500.00 dollars from your checking account thank you very much.
I can see no other reason for the city to try and get involved in your gas bill than to make a percentage off it overall( I do not believe the vote theory).
So good citizens of Streetsboro I say to you
YOU BETTER RESPOND TO THAT LETTER
