Bill Burns and Ron Moss, directors of Kent Credit Union, have been named as 2008 Volunteers of the Year by the Ohio Credit Union System, the state trade association for Ohio credit unions.
As part of the Ohio Credit Union League's 2008 Leadership Recognition Program, Burns and Moss were honored for 44 years of outstanding volunteer service at the recent annual state convention in Columbus.
The Volunteer of the Year Award has been in place since 1946 and typically honors the service of one outstanding credit union volunteer each year. The award is presented to an individual who, with the highest integrity, has dedicated time, effort, and talent to credit unions and to the credit union movement. This year, Kent Credit Union made Ohio credit union history when the Ohio Credit Union System Board of Directors and the Leadership Awards Committee named two individuals, both Burns and Moss, as volunteers of the year.
As charter members of Kent Credit Union's volunteer board of directors, Burns and Moss have been instrumental in the growth of the credit union from an operation housed out of a desk drawer in a classroom at Roosevelt High School in 1964 to its current operation of three offices with a 22-person professional staff. Burns and Moss have given of their time and served continuously as board members for 44 years.
In 2002, Kent Credit Union honored the two for their years of dedication and service by naming the board room in their honor -- the Burns/Moss Board Room. These men have volunteered countless hours of their time, attention, and devotion to Kent Credit Union and the credit union Movement.
Burns and Moss were also honored locally during the credit union's first annual meeting and dinner banquet recently at Roosevelt High School. Approximately 150 Kent Credit Union members, friends, and family were on hand to join in the celebration.
