Streetsboro -- The first batch of homes of the 535-unit Meadow View development on Route 43 got City Council's OK last week.
Council unanimously approved the plat April 28 that allows the Streetsboro Land Group to build 38 houses in the first phase of the construction.
Streetsboro Land Group Partner Dan Neff estimated the final investment in the development may be more than $100 million. He said houses should sell for $180,000 to more than $300,000, based on its location within the development.
The planning and zoning commission approved the overall concept for the 535 single-family home development on about 300 acres Jan. 8.
Land Group Partner Mike Laskey said construction on the development has already started and they hope to have a majority of the homes build by the end of the summer. He said that climate of the housing market will determine how quickly the land group proceeds in building out the rest of the development.
Neff said the development will feature 50 percent open space, allowing many the lots to have open space to their rears.
According to the preliminary plan, all but 20 to 30 properties will have open space to the rear.
Last year, Streetsboro Land Group swapped 120 acres fronting Route 14 with the School Board for about 100 acres at the northern end of what's now the land group's development.
The School Board has discussed swapping the land for space in City Park or building a new building on the Route 14 property.
