Streetsboro -- A 20-year-old Atwater motorist was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after being pulled over with two intoxicated juveniles, both 17.
According to the report, an officer saw the driver running a stop sign at Evergreen Drive at about 4 a.m. The report stated the driver showed signs of intoxication, but refused to take a breath test.
The driver was also charged with stop sign violation, registration violation and prohibitions and was taken to Portage County Jail, according to the report. The report stated the juveniles, from Kent and Ravenna, were charged with prohibitions and curfew violations and were released to their parents.
Theft
July 22. Woman charged with theft: A Market Square Drive tanning salon reported to police two incidents of the same customer stealing tanning lotion.
According to the report, the first incident occurred June 8 when video surveillance showed a Streetsboro woman, 29, taking a $58 bottle of lotion off a display case and placing the lotion in her purse.
The reported stated the second incident took place July 14 when the same woman was seen on surveillance taking a $46 bottle of lotion from the display case and hiding it in her skirt.
The woman was identified by the business and she was charged with two counts of theft. A court summons was sent to her in the mail.
July 23. Man charged with shoplifting: A Singletary Drive business loss prevention officer reported holding a Hudson man, 19, in custody for attempting to steal multiple items worth $126.
According to the report, the man had placed several items in his pockets, waist of his pants and shopping bags that he did not have receipts for when he tried to leave the building. The report stated the man admitted to taking the items and had a box cutter for opening packages on him.
The man was charged with theft and possession of a criminal tool and was released at the police station, according to the report.
Driving under a suspension
July 21. Motorist charged with driving under suspension: An officer conducted a license plate check of a vehicle parked in front of him at a Route 14 red light in the afternoon and found the plate was registered to a different vehicle.
According to the report, the Ravenna driver, 50, was pulled over and found to have a suspended license. The report stated the driver was charged with driving under a suspension, fictitious plates and not wearing a seat belt.
The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the driver was released at the police station, according to the report.
Other police news
July 21. Blood found on doorstep: A Luke Drive resident reported finding "a puddle of blood" on his door step in the afternoon.
According to the report, the resident said the blood was not there when he left for work in the morning. The report stated the pool of blood was "slightly bigger than a half dollar."
