LET'S NOT FAIL THE CHILDRN AGAIN - PASS THE LEVYNovember 4, 2007
On August 7th, the night of the last election, I posted a self serving diatribe scathing about the levy failing by 97 votes. I often checked to see if others cared enough to respond and am excited to see and say that nearly four months later, this opinion remains a top 10 story and continues to be debated on. Banter has gone back and forth between fairness of property taxes paying for education, how the current administration spends the mnieswe give them, past blunders like bad land purchases and others. When I heard that busing was lost because of the levy's faiure, I was incensed. When I heard that busing might not be returned if the levy passed in November, I was ven angrier. Honestly, I thought about voting no if the board did not re-instate busing or at the very least subtacted out what busing this year would cost from the monies being asked for. But in doing so, I am hurting the CHILDREN! The school system needs this money!! The building's need repairs and the kids need our never waining support. THEY ARE THE FUTURE. A citizen; who goes by WhizZard, makes compelling arguments against the passing of the levy citing poor leadership, mis-appropriation of past monies etc. WhizZard explains that I am inconsiderate of the people of Streetsboro that cannot or do not want to pay the increased property tax for the benefit of the children and reminds me that some of these people were able to raise 5 to 10 children in these homes but now cannot afford the $198.00 for every $100,000 in home value (His/Her Statistics). My argument remains that the development of homes and commercial business in Streetsboro has increased the value of property city wide and that one cannot enjoy the benefit of their home increasing in value and then pay the it's not fair card because school funds are recieved from property taxes. If there is a better way to provide fuding for the schools, I implore WhizZard to champion that campaign. I care about my Children's future and their chances for survival in an economy and society that leaves many children behind. I care about the futures of the other children too and the burden those left behind become on the ones who work hard. This levy will not guarantee scholastic excellence but it provides a better chance for it. The other work belongs to the parents making sure their kids are reading every day and doing their school work. Passing the levy doesn't mean the burden of excellance falls soley on the school. Better schools, mean better property values, means more money for the schools, mean better schools. It's a complex circle that takes the entire community's involvement. One last example on why everyone has a responsiility to vote YES on the levy and pay their share towards our Children's future and not blame the school board's ineptness for a reason to vote no.... I would liken this argument to the issue of Social Security. Should a retiree not get their benefit because the government miuses the funds? The money is for those hard working Amercans that built this country on their blood, sweat, and tears. Yet the government borrows from it for purposes other than its intent and fails to pay it back (with interest). Should those of us still working no longer pay into the funds? Or how abput we say that those that worked in the 1950's should no longer collect because they have received far more than they paid in while I at 36 now have to work past the current retirement age and risk never seeing a dime of the monies I paid in because the same individuals you want to protect in defense of not passing the levy remain on the social security teet. As a society we must take care of those that built on their hard work what we now run and also take care of those that will inherit what we leave them when we need taken care of. DO NOT FAIL ARE CHILDREN AGAIN!!! A YES VOTE IS A VOTE FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW. Comments

I miss quoted WhizZard - Taxes are $160 / $100,000 of value not $198.00 as stated.
