Robert M. Cowling Knights of Columbus member

Robert M. Cowling, 77, died Jan. 30, 2013 at Grace Hospital in Bedford.

Born in Cleveland on July 7, 1935, Mr. Cowling was the son of the late Robert T. and Margaret (Imers) Cowling.

A resident of Kent since 2007, he formerly lived in the Shalersville-Mantua areas for many years.

Mr. Cowling had been employed by the Solon Board of Education for 42 years as a school bus driver and transportation supervisor, retiring in 1998.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. A member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua, he also was a member of Mantua Knights of Columbus Council No. 3766, and Fr. John Cassidy Assembly of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree.

An avid NASCAR fan, Mr. Cowling also enjoyed playing Bingo, and was very talented mechanically, always tinkering with things that needed fixing and using his abilities as needed.

On July 11, 1997, he married Natalie (Kantor) Cowling who survives at their home.

Also surviving are his children Robert (Krissy) Cowling of Hilliard, Kathleen (Michael) Turchan of Elyria, Mary Jo Cline of Streetsboro and Vicki (Howard) Jones of Edinburg; brother William Cowling of Streetsboro; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Cowling was preceded in death by his son Todd Cowling and his sister Gertrude Cowling.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Feb. 5 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua with the Rev. Michael Garvey officiating.

Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua with military honors.
