Theodore "Ted" J. South, 53, of Streetsboro, died Dec. 26, 2013.

Born March 8, 1960 in Ravenna to the late Ira Jefferson and Margaret (Mackle) South, Mr. South lived most of his life in Portage County.

He was a long haul truck driver for several years, having logged more than 1 million miles until he met the love of his life, his wife Kelley. They built their life together and settled in Streetsboro.

Although Mr. South had a love of the open road, there was no greater joy in his life than that of his son, Ryan South, his "best-a-friend" and the light of his life. Mr. South came to know and touch many people through the years. With his large stature and heart to match, many thought of him as a big Teddy bear and he was even referred to as "Teddy Ruxpin."

He was a devoted husband, loving father and friend to all.

Mr. South is survived by wife Kelley (Moore), son Ryan; sister Peggy (Mike) Lorino of New Orleans, La.; brother Tom (Suzanne) of Rootstown; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends. A funeral service was set for Dec. 31 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home in Streetsboro with the Rev. Dave McClellan officiating. Interment was set to follow at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.
