Boro Barbell Gym is a new fitness venture by Streetsboro residents Matt and Tom Hannan. Matt is a 2007 Streetsboro graduate. His father coached football at Crestwood High School while Matt grew up; however, Matt wasn't interested in sports. He'd played in bands, but was looking for a different calling. During his junior and senior years, he began professional wrestling in Cleveland, performing in shows throughout northeast Ohio. In March of 2011, he signed a development deal with World Wrestling Entertainment and moved to Tampa Bay, Fla. After spending six months in Florida, Matt decided the WWE was not for him. He moved to New York City for a year, and began to think about opening his own gym.

Matt called his dad and talked about opening a gym in Streetsboro. Building his business here means a lot to Matt.

"I thought if I did open a gym, it would be nice to do it in my hometown," he said.

Matt said he missed Ohio and "pursuing [the business] gave me a good reason to come home."

Boro Barbell is a true family effort. Along with financing from his dad, Matt's younger brothers, twins John and Pete, helped with the construction and painting.

Matt's interest in the entertainment industry expands beyond wrestling. He has appeared as an extra in several movies including Tom Cruise's latest, "Jack Reacher," as a bartender, and in several music videos. He is still a professional wrestler under the name of "Matt Justice." Matt's next show is this Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. the Twinsburg Recreation Center.

Boro Barbell features free weights, cardio and weight machines and more. The gym is located in the Streetsboro Plaza, 1557 State Route 303, behind the barber shop and next to StringZ & WingZ. For more information, call 330-968-4222 or visit www.borobarbell.com.
