Firefighters, wives storm Tower at Erieview for Ronald McDonald House

Does climbing 38 flights of stairs sound like an adventure? I don't know about you, but I get winded after three flights. It's a challenge four Streetsboro residents took on and accomplished earlier this month. Streetsboro Firefighters Brian Novotny and Eric Moss and their wives, Angela and April, respectively, participated in "Tackle the Tower" at the Galleria & Tower at Erieview in downtown Cleveland. This annual event raised money for the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland. The firefighters have their own race that they complete while wearing their gear. Participants can either walk or run up the stairs.

This challenge is just a part of Angela Novotny's dedication to running. Over the past year, she started running long distance.

"When I started I would try and push myself a little farther, set goals for myself and keep going until I reached them," she said.

For motivation, Angela thinks of her loved ones who are battling cancer and how "they can't take a break from being sick, even for a minute, so I surely could keep going."

The next challenge for Angela and Brian will come this spring as they both run in the Cleveland Marathon.

If you are looking for way for your family to unplug and explore the great outdoors, a new organization in town may be of interest. Navigators USA, is a co-ed, youth-adventure organization that provides a quality scouting experience for all children and youths, ages 7 - 19, and their families, regardless of gender, race, religion, economic status, sexual orientation and social background.

"Being part of Navigators USA is a great way to get the kids engaged in activity, get them out in nature more, and connect to community," said Andrew Bores, one of the founding Streetsboro Chapter members. "One feature we liked about the group is if you have children of both genders, they can both join the same organization. It is easier for a family in terms of time and energy."

An informational meeting about Navigators USA is set for all March 1 at the Camelot Village Community Center located at 1425 Frost Road, Streetsboro. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Activities and entertainment will be available for the younger children and light refreshments will be served to all attending.
