Streetsboro is getting in on the obstacle course challenge craze. The "Tough Towner" is coming to Streetsboro April 20.
What is the Tough Towner, you ask? The event bills itself as the "ultimate community obstacle course race."
According to the event web site, the event promotes a healthy lifestyle and is "designed to bring out the inner athlete in all of us."
This year, the race is the only one in the state of Ohio to date. Competitors, who are individuals, families or teams, can race through a 4-mile course that has 25 obstacles, including climbing walls, tunnels and a natural mud bog.
The Tough Towner offers a competitive category and a fun category, so there is something for the adventurous racer and something for families and friends who enjoy playing in the mud.
Registration for participants opens next week, at www.toughtowner.com. "Early Towners" can register for the early rate of $39. The event's main sponsor will be Habitat for Humanity, but other sponsorship levels are available at www.toughtowner.com. Streets Bar & Grill is sponsoring a benefit for a local family whose 12-year-old child recently had a medical emergency. The event is being held to help raise money for medical expenses. There will be a spaghetti dinner March 23 from 5-8 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. The event will have prizes for auction, a 50/50 raffle and a DJ all night. Streets Bar & Grill is located at 9107 Route 14. Pre-Sale tickets can only be purchased at Streets Bar & Grill.

The community is invited to hit the ice at the Kent State Ice Rink with the Streetsboro Community PTA March 16 from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. The cost is $8.50 per person, including admission and skate rental. Don't miss this opportunity for kids and parents to get together and be active.
The PTA is supporting the Streetsboro High School's After Prom Committee with its fundraising efforts this month. Thirty percent of the profit from all desserts ordered from Market Day online at www.marketday.com will help pay for the after prom. If you haven't ordered Market Day products yet, I highly recommend them. All the food is high quality and quite tasty. I had a small sample bite of Market Day's new dessert, Raspberry Lemonade Pie, and it is wonderful. It's tangy and sweet, with a sugar cookie crumb crust. This treat is great to put in the freezer to have on hand to serve guests. Orders need to be placed by March 16, and pick up will be March 21.
Another way to help the after prom committee is to purchase a $5 lottery ticket that is good for the month of April. The game is based off the Ohio Lottery's "Pick 3" evening drawing. You'll get three numbers for the month. If your three numbers come up during the evening drawing during the week, you win $25; weekend drawing winners receive $50. The all-new Lenten dinners sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, at St. Joan of Arc's Fr. Stenson Center are receiving rave reviews. There are just two Fridays left -- March 15 and March 22 -- to sample the menu. The $8.50 dinner includes a choice of fish -- Atlantic cod, potato crusted scrod, fantail shrimp or cheese pierogies. Each week also features a different serve yourself buffet of scrumptious side dishes. This week's list of sides includes freshly shredded cole slaw, gourmet macaroni and cheese, tuna noodle casserole, hearty clam chowder, buttered sweet peas and carrots, linguine with white sauce and bay scallops and french fries. Dinners are held from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Fr. Stenson Center located at 8894 Route 14.
