As the adminis
trator at Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro, I was disappointed when an out-of-state law firm that specializes in suing nursing homes ran a full-page ad in the Sept. 18 Streetsboro Gateway News focusing on Maple Wood Care Centre. This firm also took out ads in neighboring newspapers with the same misleading advertisement against other nursing homes. As a prominent provider of health care, Maple Wood doesn't typically respond to advertisements in our local newspaper. However, this ad was so misleading that I want to set the record straight. These firms use the media to help stir up business so they can file lawsuits against nationally backed local nursing homes until the businesses have no choice but to pay up or expend their resources defending lawsuits. So here are the facts:
• Maple Wood Care Centre has won a Bronze Quality Award from the American Health Care Association;
• We've been serving Portage County since 1988 and proudly employ over 150 people in our community;
• Maple Wood Care Centre provides quality short-term rehabilitation, long-term care and Alzheimer's care. It's maintained an occupancy rate of 94 percent for the past five years while the state average is 84 percent, reflecting its reputation for quality care;
•Maple Wood is proud that 21 of its employees have worked here more than 10 years. This statistic is reflected in consistent, quality care and means repeat visitors are greeted by a familiar, friendly face; and
• During the last three years, Maple Wood has received an average of 4.6 citations out of a possible 400 during its annual Ohio Department of Health survey.
We remain, as always, dedicated to providing high-quality care and are continually striving to improve the services we provide. To learn more about Maple Wood Care Centre and the support and care we provide to our residents, feel free to contact me.
