The old year 2013 is fast coming to a close -- 13 days to be exact. For some it has produced a host of good results; for others, oh well! The constant attention we render to the government's plans and promises to upgrade the lives of our veterans should always be uppermost in our daily thoughts.
Finances aside, the special care veterans need, especially those who have returned in recent months and years from service in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, must be addressed. And we, as veterans, must make sure that out representatives and senators are similarly aware of the commitment they made to our servicemen and women when they volunteered to serve America around the world. We must make sure that the promises made to our hospitalized veterans are kept. Your past support for this invaluable mission tells me that you will not shy away from the urgency of our important charge. Thanks!
I trust that your Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanza celebrations will be joyous and fulfilling in every way. I am delighted to join with my family in extending warmest greetings to each of you for a happy and blessed observance.
This happy occasion gives me an opportunity to express sincere thanks to our dedicated veterans and their marvelous auxiliaries. The ladies of the auxiliaries volunteer their personal time throughout the year to bring cheer to our hospitalized veterans and are always ready to serve whenever and wherever needed. They unabashedly promote Americanism and patriotism. We thank them and all the public relations officers of the posts and auxiliaries who keep us informed about their many activities. Take a bow!
My sincere thanks to the management and staff of Record Publishing Co. for standing out as the only newspapers in Northeast Ohio offering this weekly service to veterans who have served their country with honor; to those currently in uniform; to Eric Marotta, editor of the News Leader and Andrew Schunk, editor of the Twinsburg Bulletin; and to all of the editorial folks of the other RPC publications for their cooperation in running our column. And thanks for allowing me to report on the many positive things veterans and their ladies auxiliaries perform in our communities. For the record, this column will start its 28th year of non-stop publication on Feb 7. How's that for a record?

Thanks! I'd like to thank all of our readers who took the time to express their congratulations to me on the occasion of my induction into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame on Nov. 7 in Columbus. It truly was a special day for this old vet.
