Coventry races past Streetsboro boys basketball team


The Streetsboro boys basketball team dropped to 3-2 on the season and 2-2 in the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division after losing a 68-59 decision to Coventry Dec. 21 in Akron.

The Comets (5-2, 3-1) led for much of the game and had a 19-point advantage (57-38) early in the fourth quarter.

Seven players scored at least six points for Coventry. John Morrison led the Comets with 15 points and George Jacobs and Jesse Oravec contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Jordan Matusik knocked down five three-pointers on his way to a game-high 19 points for the Rockets. His teammate, Brandon Gency, added 17 points.

Coventry also scored a 60-48 win in the junior varsity contest. Reggie Dublin led Streetsboro with 15 points.
