Scores: Streetsboro boys hoops, wrestling teams win


The host Streetsboro boys basketball team improved to 5-6 on the season and 4-2 in the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division after posting a 51-49 victory over Norton Jan. 8.

The Rockets prevailed despite scoring just five points in the fourth quarter. Streetsboro had a 29-19 lead at halftime.

Jordan Matusik led the Rockets with 17 points and Devin Rencher and Brandon Gency added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Paul Jenkins also had nine points for Streetsboro.

Aaron VanBuskirk led the Panthers with a game-high 22 points.

The Rockets lost a 36-33 decision in the junior varsity contest. Jerry Judd led Streetsboro with 15 points.


The Streetsboro wrestling team picked up its first two Portage Trail Conference Metro Division wins of the season Jan. 8 at Springfield High School in Akron.

The Rockets posted a 50-20 win over Kent Roosevelt and a 49-21 victory over Springfield. With the wins, the Rockets improved to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Metro Division.

The Streetsboro boys and girls bowling teams lost to Portage Trail Conference Metro Division rival Coventry.

The boys lost a 2,350-1,602 decision. D.J. James led the Rockets with scores of 155 and 123, respectively. Tyler Fleming was next for Streetsboro with games of 142 and 135.

The girls lost a 1,828-1,535 decision. Jessica Roch (172-120) and Becca Fleming (126-158) led the Rockets.
