Gency invited to play football in Dayton

Streetsboro senior linebacker Brandon Gency recently was chosen to participate in this year's Ohio High School Football Coaches Association North/South Game April 27 in Dayton.

Gency is the second Streetsboro player to be chosen to play in this game. Alex Todd, a 2012 Streetsboro graduate, played in this game last year.

Bowling teams fall to Springfield in Kent

The Streetsboro boys and girls bowling teams lost to Portage Trail Conference Metro Division rival Springfield Jan. 11 at Kent Lanes.

The boys lost a 2,264-1,798 decision and the girls suffered a 2,123-1,446 setback.

Tyler Fleming led the boys team with scores of 150 and 165, respectively. D.J. James (133-148) and Nick Marlin (140-125) also fared well for the Rockets.

Jessica Roch had the high series for the girls team (263; 108-155). Becca Fleming (86-171) was next for Streetsboro.

Both teams also lost to Metro Division rival Coventry Jan. 8 at Turkeyfoot Lanes in Akron.

The boys lost a 2,350-1,602 decision and the girls dropped a 1,828-1,535 decision.

James (155-123) and Tyler Fleming (142-135) led the boys and Roch (172-120) and Becca Fleming (126-158) led the girls.

Mount Union offers winter camps

The University of Mount Union is scheduled to host baseball winter camps for boys in grades 4 to 12 Jan. 20 and 27.

Jan. 20: The prospect camp is open to all players regardless of skill level who are looking to improve: Offensive skills, pitching/catching drills, infield/outfield drills and skills evaluations.

Jan. 27: Skill development will include swing mechanics, tee drills, bunting/base running, throwing mechanics, infield/outfield and pitching/catching.

Buy wrestling tickets

All-session ticket sales for the 2013 Ohio High School Athletic Association state wrestling tournament have begun and plenty of tickets are available.

The tourney runs Feb. 28 and March 1-2 at the Schottenstein Center on Ohio State University's campus. Cost for an all-session ticket book (five sessions) is $75 for the entry and club levels and $55 for the terrace level. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster locations, by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Single-session tickets are set to go on sale Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. at $15 each.

Resident runs in race

Streetsboro resident Molly Pandelli, 29, placed 78th in the female 25-to-29 age group and 770th overall with a time of 29 minutes, 6.3 seconds in the 13th annual Reindeer Run Dec. 1 in Lakewood.
