Bowlers fall to Ravenna

The Streetsboro bowling teams lost to Portage Trail Conference Metro Division rival Ravenna Jan. 22 at Bill White's Twin Star Lanes in Kent.

The boys fell to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in the Metro Division after losing a 2,353-1,815 decision. The girls (0-10, 0-6) lost a 2,151-1,454 decision.

Tyler Fleming led the Rockets' boys with scores of 162 and 181, respectively. Rounding out the top four were Bobby Eckert (180-124), Casey Brace (162-133) and Austin Lesak (129-134).

The girls were led by Jessica Roch (124-94). Rounding out the top four were Sarah Yonish (104-108), Courtney Schembechler (112-96) and Lilly James (99-117).

Both teams were scheduled to visit Metro Division foe Crestwood. Results were not available at press time. They are set to host Metro Division rival Ravenna Jan. 30 at Kent Lanes. The action is scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m. T

Races offered

Four distance runs are coming up in February in the Cleveland area: Feb. 2, Tackle the Tower at the Galleria in downtown Cleveland; Feb. 12, Ragin Cajun Run at the Blind Pig in downtown Cleveland; Feb. 16, Chili Bowl Classic 5K at the Galleria; and Feb. 23, Snowball Run at Bay Village High School. Umpire class coming up

The Portage County Umpires Association will host an OHSAA baseball umpire class in February and March. It will run for five weeks, meeting twice a week. It is required for the OHSAA exam. Interested candidates should call Dave O'Donnell at 330-274-8607.

Kent State University's softball program is set to host an instructional coaches clinic Feb. 2 for high school and youth league coaches from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
