Streetsboro boys basketball team routs Coventry

The host Streetsboro boys basketball team improved to 10-6 overall and 9-2 in the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division after posting a commanding 77-48 victory over Coventry Feb. 1.

The Rockets started strong and finished strong. They jumped out to a 19-6 lead and then put it away by outscoring the Comets 25-14 in the final eight minutes.

Four players scored in double digits for Streetsboro. Paul Jenkins led the way with 18 points and Brandon Gency had 16 points, including four three-pointers.

Devin Rencher had 15 points for the Rockets and Jordan Matusik added 12 points for the Rockets, who earned a 51-46 win in the junior varsity contest.

KUKLISIN REACHES SEMIFINALS FOR STREETSBORO WRESTLING TEAM

The Streetsboro wrestling team was in 10th place with 28 points after the first day of the Portage Trail Conference Tournament Feb. 1 at Rootstown High School.

Field was leading the competition with 78.5 points and Coventry (73.5) and Crestwood (70) were in second and third place, respectively. A total of 14 teams are competing. The Rockets' Sean Kuklisin reached the semifinals at 106 pounds. He is scheduled to wrestle his semifinal match Feb. 2.
