Bowlers place sixth
The Streetsboro boys and girls bowling teams finished sixth in the six-team Metro Division of the Portage Trail Conference Tournament Feb. 2 at Bill White's Akron Lanes.
The Streetsboro boys finished with a score of 2,798. Kent Roosevelt (4,090) won the competition and Crestwood (4,039) and Coventry (3,899) finished second and third, respectively.
Tyler Fleming led the Rockets with scores of 154, 155 and 152, respectively. Also competing were Bobby Eckert (123-131-143), D.J. James (140-138-111), Nick Marlin (124-131-125), Casey Brace (164-137) and Austin Lesak (108).
The Streetsboro girls finished with a score of 2,249. Coventry won the competition with a score of 3,514 and Kent (3,475) and Springfield (3,441) placed second and third, respectively.
Becca Fleming (148-134-150) led the Rockets. Also competing for Streetsboro were Kerry Sutphin (82-121-122), Lilly James (125-109-86), Courtney Schoenbachler (104-95-78) and Sarah Yonish (89-160-82).
Both teams fell to Portage Trail Conference Metro Division rival Crestwood Jan. 29 at Sky Lanes in Garrettsville.
The boys lost a 2,346-1,735 decision and the girls lost a 1,929-1,443 decision.
James led the Rockets' boys (0-16, 0-10) with scores of 159-144, respectively. Also faring well for Streetsboro were Tyler Fleming (170-129) and Brace (119-170).
The Rockets' girls (0-16, 0-10) were led by Becca Fleming (118-135) and Yonish (120-115).
Umpire class coming up
The Portage County Umpires Association will host an OHSAA baseball umpire class in February and March. It will run for five weeks, meeting twice a week. It is required for the OHSAA exam. Interested candidates should call Dave O'Donnell at 330-274-8607.
