Staff report

The host Streetsboro girls basketball team finished the regular season with a 5-17 overall record and 2-12 mark in the Portage Trail Conference after losing a 50-41 decision to Crestwood Feb. 13.

The Lady Red Devils were up 29-14 at halftime and never looked back. Allison Vannoy led Crestwood with a game-high 21 points.

Shania Williams and Alison Targosky each had a team-high 10 points for the Rockets. Shannon Blondeaux added nine points for Streetsboro.

"It was Senior Night and there were a lot of emotions," Rockets head coach Allison Carey said. "We were able to get it to within six in the fourth quarter. We came out and played really poorly in the first quarter.

"In the second half, we stepped up our game and played better defense."

Host Streetsboro lost a 73-37 decision to Uniontown Lake Feb. 11. Marra Woods led the Rockets with eight points.

"Lake is really good," Carey said. "Somebody told me Lake made its first nine shots. One of the girls told me she couldn't believe they had 70 points. That's what happens when you make your first shot every time."

Streetsboro earned an opening-round bye in the Austintown Fitch Division II sectional-district tournament.

The Rockets are scheduled to play the Beloit West Branch-Youngstown Liberty winner in a sectional title contest Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m.

"The girls have the drive inside of them," Carey said. "The tournament falls at our best time. We've played well in the tournament the last two years."
