Staff report

The Streetsboro girls basketball team's season ended Feb. 23 at Austintown Fitch High School.

The Rockets lost a lopsided 80-42 decision to second-seeded Beloit West Branch in a Division II sectional title game.

Marra Woods and Shannon Blondeaux each had eight points for the Rockets (5-18).

"We played well for the first four minutes," Streetsboro head coach Allison Carey said. "We were up 4-3 and then [West Branch] made a run and it was 18-4. They had some phenomenal shooters. You could tell those kids are gym rats. They get to the gym every chance they get."

Although West Branch took control in the first quarter, the Rockets didn't back down.

"They continue to work hard no matter what the score is," Carey said. "They still battle for rebounds and drive into the paint."

Carey enjoyed her time with the players.

"All the girls on the team are really great to work with," she said. "They're very coachable and they have great personalities."

Seniors Megan Densmore, Shannon Blondeaux and Mikaela Dombrowski concluded their high school basketball careers Feb. 23.

"They did a really great job leading the team," Carey said of her seniors. "I told Shannon before the West Branch game, 'This is your team.' Shannon is one of our most vocal leaders. The other seniors did a great job of leading by example."

Alison Targosky earned second-team Portage Trail Conference Metro Division honors. Blondeaux and Woods received honorable mention.
