Streetsboro basketball players honored for season

The Streetsboro boys basketball team recently had its awards banquet.

The following players were honored:

• Offensive Most Valuable Player: Jordan Matusik

• Defensive MVP: Brandon Gency

• Mr. Hustle: Dorian Williams

• Most improved: Devin Rencher

• Coaches award: Brian Diulus

• Rookies of the Year: Paul Jenkins and Josh Reyes

Matusik, who averaged 14.8 points per game, also was named to the All-Portage Trail Conference Metro Division first team and the Associated Press Northeast Inland All-District third team.

He also is scheduled to participate in the Greater Akron Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game and 3-point contest March 20 at Walsh Jesuit High School. The action is set to begin at 6 p.m.

Gency made the All-PTC Metro Division second team and Williams and Rencher received honorable mention.

Streetsboro finished 11-12 during the season after losing in a Division II sectional title contest.
