receive honors

Streetsboro head boys basketball coach Nick Marcini recently was named the Portage Trail Conference County Division Coach of the Year.

Marcini guided the Rockets to a 15-8 overall record. Streetsboro won the County Division title with an 11-1 record. Marcini also was named County Division Coach of the Year during the 2010-11 season.

Joining their head coach on the All-County team were Daniel Sapp, a first-team selection, and second-team choices Reggie Dublin and Paul Jenkins.

Sapp also was named the Most Valuable Player after leading Team Summit to a 118-110 victory over Team Stark in the boys senior basketball All-Star Classic March 26 at Malone University in Canton. He finished with 31 points and 23 rebounds. Sapp recently accepted a scholarship to the University of California of Pennsylvania.

Streetsboro girls basketball players Alison Targosky and Marra Woods were named to the All-PTC County Division team.

Targosky was named to the first team and Woods was named to the second team. The Rockets finished 15-7 overall and 7-5 in the County Division. The win total is a school record.

Streetsboro bowlers Tyler Fleming and Becca Fleming were named to the All-PTC County Division first team.

Streetsboro wrestler Tyler Rowland also was named to the All-PTC County Division team.

Kopcak earns win

The Kent State University baseball team earned a 9-7 victory over Wright State in 12 innings March 26 in Fairborn.

Streetsboro graduate Dan Kopcak got the win on the mound for the Golden Flashes. He entered the game in the 11th inning and pitched 1-1/3 scoreless innings.
