The Streetsboro softball team may have left the Akron Firestone Stadium complex without any wins, but the Rockets' play opened some eyes in the annual Ohio Invitational, which was hosted by the Akron Racers.
The Rockets faced two Division I programs at the event. Streetsboro lost 4-0 to Richfield Revere April 12 and 12-11 to Sylvania Northview April 13.
With the losses, Streetsboro dropped to 1-3.
"Our defense has been phenomenal and the girls really played well against Division I competition," Goldstein said. "I thought the girls played exceptionally well. It was great to see. We're young, but we are really coming together."
Dombrowski, a junior, pitched well and the defense played well against a strong pitching squad in Revere, according to Goldstein.
Against Northview, the offense looked like it had arisen from an early-season slumber.
Junior Corrine Braynard, who nearly had a home run in a recent game against Rootstown, had two singles along with sophomore Elizabeth Boyer and freshman Justine Yates.
Senior Kristen MacMillan added a double against Northview along with two walks. In addition, senior Taylor Gaines had a single as well as freshman Sarah Varner. Sophomore Jenna Oravec clubbed a double.
"We just need to keep working and need to get games in so we can remain playing decent softball," Goldstein said.
Streetsboro lost an 11-4 decision to Portage Trail Conference County Division rival Rootstown April 10 on the road.
The Rockets couldn't keep pace after a two-run first as the Lady Rovers scored in every inning, including four times in the sixth.
Dombrowski took the loss on the mound, while Ashley Banks got the win for Rootstown.
Streetsboro, which dropped to 0-2 in the County Division, outhit Rootstown 8-7 in the loss. Goldstein missed the game due to a bout of the flu.
Oravec came up with a pair of doubles, while junior Auliah Kendall had three singles. Yates added a triple.
MacMillan, Gaines, Dombrowski and sophomore Chelsea Diliberto all had singles for Streetsboro.
On April 9, Banks fired a three-hitter to beat host Streetsboro 7-0. Yates had a single for the Rockets and sophomore Alicia Garrett took the loss.
The Rockets were scheduled to visit County Division rival Southeast April 14 before hosting the Pirates April 15. Results of those games were not available at press time.
They are set to visit James A. Garfield April 17 in Garrettsville. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. They are set to host PTC foe Ravenna April 21 at 4 p.m. and Nordonia April 23 at 4:30 p.m.
