Streetsboro head softball coach Jen Goldstein has some athletes who are eager to get on the field and play.

They have a good reason to be eager.

Goldstein's club has only played in 10 games all spring due to weather postponements.

So when the Rockets got the seventh seed in the May 4 seed drawing for the Akron South Division II sectional-district tournament, it's difficult to know what that means.

Streetsboro was 3-7 overall and 0-5 in the Portage Trail Conference County Division as of press time.

But the Rockets might be coming together at the right time. That's what Goldstein is hoping.

"We have not been able to play many games this season and we have not played in over a week," she said. "So I think it's tough to know how to know what we are capable of. That's why is it's so difficult to know where our seed was."

Streetsboro, which did receive votes for the sixth seed, is set to play a first-round game May 15 (4:30 p.m.) at Field (9-2), which was the third seed. The rain date is scheduled for May 16.

State-ranked Tallmadge (10th) was the top seed, followed by Richfield Revere. Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy is the fourth seed.

"We are young and we are excited to play," said Goldstein. "Revere is a team that we are familiar with and we played very well against them in the Ohio Invitational [April 12] at Akron Firestone [Stadium].So that gives us an idea of what we are facing."

Streetsboro lost 4-0 to Revere April 12 in a tight battle.

"The girls are antsy and they want to play softball," Goldstein said. "They haven't been happy about the long layoff. We're hoping to get some games in."

Makenzie Dombrowski is the Rockets' most experienced pitcher and continues to make strides.

"Makenzie is doing really well for us and she is still learning," Goldstein said.

"With some experience under her belt, Makenzie is more comfortable this season. She has come a long way."

Streetsboro was scheduled to host County Division rival Mogadore May 5 before heading to Mogadore May 6. Results of those games were not available at press time.

The Rockets are set to visit County Division foe Waterloo May 8 before returning home to play Waterloo May 9.

Both varsity games are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Streetsboro is set to host County Division rival Woodridge May 12 at 4:15 p.m.

The Rockets are scheduled to visit Woodridge May 13 at 4:30 p.m.
