Individual improvement is a primary focus for the Streetsboro girls cross country team.
Three Rockets participated in their 5K race of the season at the Billy Goat Challenge Aug. 23 at Woodland Park in McDonald.
Meghan Westerh led the way with a 39th-place time of 23:37.8 and Rachel Woods was next in 68th (25:18).
Also competing for Streetsboro was Madison Westerh (87th, 26:18.5).
The race featured some strong programs such as Woodridge, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, Crestwood, Sugarcreek Garaway and McDonald.
Woodridge won the team title 50-69 over CVCA while Crestwood was third (75). Fourth-place Garaway (84) had three runners place in the top five.
The Rockets opened the regular season in the 3K Dick Malloy Invitational, hosted by Akron Archbishop Hoban Aug. 20 at Goodyear Heights Metro Park in Akron.
Streetsboro finished third with 104 points in the seven-team Gold Division.
Alliance Marlington easily won the competition with 20 points and Coventry took second with 102 points.
Meghan Westerh led the team by placing eighth (13:13). Running 11th was Madison Westerh in 13:43, followed by Woods, who was 12th (14:09).
Sophomore Alexa Brace ran 34th overall with a time of 17:27 and freshman Alexis Miller finished 39th (18:24).
The Rockets are set to compete at the Ashley White Stump Memorial Invitational Aug. 30 at Marlington High School. The race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
