Streetsboro as a whole gets a lukewarm rating as a pedestrian paradise from website Walk Score. Receiving a rating of 52 out of a possible 100, Streetsboro is a place where “some errands can be accomplished on foot.”
Walk Score rates municipalities according to pedestrian friendliness, public transportation facilities, sidewalks and bike paths. Walk Score states walking helps residents burn calories, save money and free up time to get involved in the community.
The dependence on automobiles intensifies at the Village of Western Reserve, a complex of 108 townhomes with attached garages located at 815 Frost Road. Walk Score gives the Village a 23.
However, Streetsboro may be more geared to those having a love affair with the automobile so intense that they don’t necessarily get out from behind the steering wheel when they arrive at their destination. For those folks, there are drive-through windows at restaurants, banks and pharmacies.
They may be gladdened to know Streetsboro has a Sonic Drive-In restaurant, 9780 State Route 14, where carhops deliver the meals right to customers’ cars. Sonic encourages its waitstaff to bring out the food on roller skates and even posts training videos about skating on its web site. In the interest of safety, the carhops must wear helmets until they are certified to skate without them. Look for the Streetsboro Sonic on Facebook at Sonic Cleveland.
Sonic Drive-In has restaurants in other Ohio locations including Toledo, at 225 Secor Road, Toledo, which gets a Walk Score of 54, slightly better than Streetsboro. T-Town’s neighborhoods are better for pedestrians. West Gate, where the drive-in restaurant is located, gets an 85; City Center gets an 80; Warren Sherman gets a 71 and Old Towne gets a 65.
